My interview for vlog #3 was with my
own mother. I chose my mom because she was a bilingual teacher for 12 years and
is now a bilingual diagnostician. She
has experience in the field and working with bilingual students so I thought
she would be the perfect person to interview.
The first
thing that I would like to point out is that my mom said she believes the best
way for a child to learn a second language was through a classroom
setting. She may have her own experience
with this but in my opinion I believe the best way for a child to learn a
second language would be through a naturalistic approach mixed with an
instructional setting. This is my opinion based on the readings from the
textbooks.
Another
answer my mom gave that I would like to point out is her approach to using
technology in the classroom with bilingual students. I agree with her that the computer offers great
audio and visual aspects that would help build vocabulary and comprehension
with both bilingual and general ed. Students.
The last
thing I would like to agree with my mother on is how important current research
and techniques are in the bilingual classroom. To be the most efficient teacher
one must put in the effort to learn how new research is affecting the
field. As years go by and technology
gets more advanced so does our knowledge on virtually every topic. It is important
to implement these new discoveries into the classroom to benefit bilingual
students.
Overall, I
thoroughly enjoyed the interview with my mom and hope to learn a lot more from
her as well as this class. It is essential that we, as future educators, are
aware of how a bilingual classroom is ran, because one day we may be in that exact
position.
